Mother Receives £12,000 for Trip at Daughter's School

A mother who tripped and fell while dropping her daughter off at school has obtained compensation for the injuries she suffered.

She had taken her daughter to her classroom and was walking along a path when she tripped on a raised paving slab. She fell heavily, sustaining a bad cut to her knee and bruising to her cheek, shoulder and wrist. She was in severe pain after the fall and required stitches to her knee.

She brought a claim against the local council responsible for maintaining the school's grounds. The council denied liability for her injuries and disputed that she had tripped as she described. However, evidence confirming what had happened was obtained from another parent who had seen her fall. Confirmation of her injuries was also obtained from a medical expert.

After court proceedings were served, the council made an offer to settle the claim. This was rejected as being too low, and negotiations led to a settlement of £12,000 being agreed.
