Boys & Maughan's family law expertise and practical advice recognised in Chambers UK Guide 2027
Boys & Maughan’s family law team has secured another strong endorsement in the Chambers UK Legal Guide 2027, with its practical advice and determined approach to resolving disputes receiving particular praise.
The department has retained its Band 4 ranking for Family/Matrimonial work in The South, while partner and department head Jonathan da Costa has maintained his individual position in Band 2.
The latest results reflect the firm's established reputation for helping clients navigate complex and often sensitive family matters, with referees drawing attention to the way its lawyers manage cases and work towards effective resolutions.
One referee observed that “The Boys & Maughan team provides good, practical advice,” while another praised the team's approach to progressing cases, commenting, “Matters are handled robustly to ensure a timely conclusion.”
The Chambers assessment recognises the department's capabilities across financial disputes arising from divorce and separation, Children Act proceedings and cases involving substantial or complicated financial arrangements. These include disputes concerning pensions, property, investments and assets held overseas.
Jonathan's continued inclusion among the guide's leading family lawyers represents his 11th consecutive year of recognition. His Band 2 ranking reflects his extensive experience in financial remedy proceedings and disputes involving property ownership under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act (TOLATA).
This year's feedback places particular emphasis on Jonathan's judgement, reliability and ability to guide clients through difficult decisions.
“Jonathan is an excellent lawyer who works to get the best results for his clients,” said one referee. Another described him as “very reliable and very experienced,” while a third highlighted his ability to combine tactical thinking with straightforward advice: “Jonathan is good tactically, provides clear advice and sets realistic expectations for clients.”
Commenting on the results, Jonathan said:
“What stands out for me in this year's feedback is the emphasis on practical advice and realistic expectations. These are essential qualities when helping people make important decisions about their families and their futures.
“Our approach is to encourage constructive dialogue and explore opportunities to resolve matters outside court wherever possible. Non-court dispute resolution can give clients greater control over the process, helping them reach workable agreements while minimising the emotional and financial pressures that court proceedings can bring.
“I'm delighted that our approach has been recognised once again. It reflects the experience, professionalism and genuine commitment of everyone in our team to achieving the best possible outcomes for our clients.”
The 2027 results mark the third consecutive year that Boys & Maughan's family department has been ranked by Chambers. Its assessments are based on extensive independent research, including interviews with clients and legal professionals, making the continued recognition a valuable endorsement of the team's work across Kent.
