A compensation settlement has been agreed for a woman whose leg had to be amputated after she was involved in a head-on collision.

Her car was hit by another vehicle which was trying to overtake traffic. She was airlifted to hospital and spent more than two weeks in a coma. She awoke to find that her right leg had been amputated below the knee. She remained in hospital for three months. Although she returned to her job as a teaching assistant, she was unable to do things she used to enjoy, such as playing sports with the children or taking her dog for long walks.

The other driver pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and banned from driving for two years.

After she sought legal advice, funding was secured from the other driver's insurer to allow her to access specialist rehabilitation and support. A settlement of her claim for an undisclosed amount was subsequently reached.
