  • Cases where parents are involved with social services such as pre-proceedings meetings, child protection and child in need
  • Public law proceedings (care proceedings) representing parents and other parties with an interest in the case, including those who are invited to intervene
  • Emergency protection orders
  • Recovery order applications
  • Special guardianship order applications, which includes acting for relatives
  • Placement order and adoption order applications, and
  • Applying to discharge care orders or special guardianship orders where there is a substantial change in circumstances.

Experienced in multiple areas of law, Shakeel Malik joined Boys & Maughan in January 2023 and previously worked for a high street firm in Swale for 12 years where he established a strong local reputation. Whilst there he also dealt with matters relating to landlord and tenant, personal protection, civil, adoption, matrimonial and immigration.

Shakeel frequently encounters circumstances involving the so-called ‘toxic trio’; domestic abuse, mental illness and substance misuse.

He has acted for vulnerable clients through the Official Solicitor and dealt with cases involving particularly complex and sensitive legal issues such as:

  • Non-accidental injuries (NAI), including those investigating genetic disorders
  • Non-accidental head injuries (NAHI)
  • Sexual abuse and inter-generational sexual abuse
  • Fabricated induced illness (FII) allegations, and
  • Matters where there are concurrent criminal proceedings or investigations.

A number of Shakeel’s matters have concluded with judgments in the High Court and Court of Appeal and he regularly manages multiple complex cases where a robust legal team needs to be assembled to include more than one barrister, or at times, Kings Counsel.

Shakeel always commits to doing what he needs to do in order to achieve the best possible outcome for his clients, immerses himself in the details and practicalities, and takes pride in being easily approachable and accessible.
