Boys & Maughan boosts Canterbury conveyancing team with graduate promotion

Boys & Maughan has promoted Rebecca Wright at its Canterbury St George’s Place office to the role of conveyancing legal assistant. It is her second promotion in just six months.

Rebecca is a Canterbury Christchurch University Law graduate who is now pursuing her Legal Practice Course qualification, the final vocational stage of training to become a qualified solicitor, at evening classes. She is one of an increasing number of future lawyers who is balancing the books by combining studying and working full time.

“I feel like I have picked up a great deal of practical experience and know-how since joining Boys & Maughan in the spring,” says Rebecca. “We have a supportive team and I have learnt a lot from colleagues.

“Conveyancing is one of my current areas of study and it is proving much easier thanks to the experience I have gained. I am also studying dispute resolution and recently had a very kind offer of support from one of the firm’s senior litigators. Another member of staff is a law undergraduate and I plan to do my bit and, in turn, offer her my assistance.”

Rebecca, who has lived in the Canterbury area since childhood, joined Boys & Maughan in March 2021. She naturally has one eye to the horizon and how to further develop her Boys & Maughan career.

“Of course I would love to have the prospect of a training contract with Boys & Maughan when I complete my LPC,” says Rebecca. “I understand that training contracts are not always possible but by being on the inside of the firm, doing my best and continuing to develop my skills, I believe that I will greatly improve my chances of realising my ambition.”

Liz Thomson, one of Boys & Maughan’s partners, leads its Canterbury residential property team. Liz explained:

“It has always been our policy to seek opportunities to promote from within wherever possible and Rebecca is an excellent example of this approach quickly bringing dividends. We are delighted with the progress Rebecca has made and I am confident that she has a bright future ahead of her.”
