Boy Due Six-Figure Compensation After Holiday Pool Accident

Lawyers representing a 10-year-old boy who very nearly drowned in a swimming pool accident whilst on a family holiday in Majorca have succeeded in negotiating a €200,000 settlement of his claim against Spanish hoteliers.

The boy sank to the bottom of the pool after straying into the deep end unnoticed and was not expected to survive. He was in a coma for weeks and doctors had at one point considered turning off his life support machine. However, following his return to the UK, he had defied all expectations by recovering to the point where he could attend school, run, talk, read and write.

On his behalf, lawyers sued two Spanish hotel companies and their insurer, claiming that the accident was avoidable and the result of negligence. A claim form filed at the High Court revealed that, subject to judicial approval, a €200,000 settlement of the boy’s claim has been agreed.
