Boys & Maughan's 2010 Charity Golf Day raised £1300 for east Kent's Pilgrims Hospices.
The day, which took place in June over 27 holes at Sandwich's Prince's Golf Club, was attended by more than 75 golfers and their guests and was topped off by a charity dinner with guest speaker Martin Saggers - the ex Kent and England pace bowler.
Upon presenting the cheque to Susan Booth - Head of Fundraising & Marketing for the 3 east Kent hospices, Boys & Maughan partner Peter Rodd said "I am delighted that our charity day, once-again, raised a four-figure sum for such a worthy cause. What many people do not realise is that Pilgrims Hospices not only provide in-patient care for the last few days of life, but also support nearly half of all patients and their families in their own homes."
Receiving the cheque from Peter, Susan commented "Our 400 staff and over 1800 volunteers care for more than 1600 local people every year with illnesses that can not be cured including cancer, heart failure, respiratory conditions and neurological diseases. 75% of the £8 million we need each year comes from the local community and events such as this." She continued "As we are providing palliative care we don’t need lot’s of expensive medical equipment. Our greatest need is to provide time for our nurses and other care givers to spend with our patients."
Next year's Boys & Maughan Charity Golf Day is already booked for Thursday June 9th, less than a month before Prince's hosts final qualifying for the 2011 Open Championship. If you are interested in playing &/or sponsorship opportunities please contact Robin Evans.
